There was a bar but I'm not sure I saw anyone using it...

First gathering takes place at the Thursday luncheon. This is traditional. There used to be a "gathering of friends" at Sarjim's. That, of course, is no more, but I documented at least one, somewhere in this blog.
It was a gloomy day. I wanted, this time, to take more of a step-by-step approach, and document locations.
This is where the luncheons take place, on the last Thursday of the month.
It is a cafeteria.
Definitely not a large crowd, but when you consider the circumstances, primarily short notice, the turnout was better than one might have expected!

My wife's classmates have been very kind, from the beginning, and I appreciate that very much.
Lubbock High School's Class Of 1955 is a very special group!
Next event would be Friday registration at the hotel...
This is the part I was very nervous about. I just did not know how I would feel. I knew I would see Sarjim's name tag on the "dead board". That was an ordeal, but I knew I had to accept reality. I'm still trying to come to terms.
I decided to document every step of the way. I was very familiar with these surroundings from prior reunions.
My wife's absence made all of this a very strange experience.
This was the "dead board" I dreaded seeing. But I looked and took it well enough.
No coffee in the coffee urns! I needed coffee! So did the husband of another classmate, so we headed for the little restaurant at the north end of this hotel. I documented every step. For posterity?
This is where we would enjoy our evening meal, traditional for Registration Day. I arrived about an hour after registration began and there were really not many there at that time.

We arrived at our destination! Coffee!
They had a buffet.
It looked OK to us.
And then back to registration.
There were a few more people there.
A hospitality room is traditional. This time it was a bit late getting established. I helped some folks carry in snacks and drinks.
Soon, the class had a hospitality room.
More and more people showed up, to register and claim name tags.
My name will never be on this board, though I don't expect to live forever. No, these boards are reserved for classmates. What happens to the name tags of spouses??
Attendance was a bit off, compared to the 60th, for instance, but some people still made rather long journeys to get to this reunion. Given the short notice, attendance was actually surprising. This is a dedicated group!
I photographed some young people. Come to find out, we'd be moved out of this area on the second day to make room for a wedding celebration!
This completes my coverage of registration for this 63rd Lubbock High reunion. Eventually enough classmates showed up to make this reunion a very worthwhile effort. I have to admit, I was kind of an early bird to registration. Most folks aren't going to be there at the opening bell!
